Telex was created by computer security researchers from universities in the United States and Canada:
- J. Alex Halderman, assistant professor, computer science and engineering, the University of Michigan
- Ian Goldberg, associate professor of computer science at the University of Waterloo
- Eric Wustrow, Ph.D. student, the University of Michigan
- Scott Wolchok, Ph.D. student, the University of Michigan
